East Potomac Plans Face a Review and Court-Order Test

A scheduled design submission and planned November closure remain distinct from approval and completed construction.

The stated timetable

The Associated Press reported that a Justice Department filing scheduled an East Potomac golf-course design submission for October 30 and a closure south of Buckeye Drive for November 15. Planning review is set for December 3. This account does not confirm that today’s submission has occurred.

The court’s restrictions still matter

AP also reported an injunction restricting further tree damage and requiring advance written notice before irreversible changes. Our analysis: a plan, a lease and permission to undertake physical work are different things. Public announcements should be checked against the written order rather than treated as authorization that overrides it.

Public access is an operational question

For park users, the important details include which paths, facilities and entrances remain available, and when. A broad description of renovation does not answer those questions. Clear maps and dated notices can make the practical effect easier to understand without requiring residents to interpret a court docket.

What remains unresolved

Review and litigation are still part of the process. Readers should consult official park notices before traveling and distinguish proposed work from completed alterations. This report preserves the planned dates as plans; it does not describe the course as already closed or the design as already approved.
